A good garden chair should feel just as natural at the dining table as it does on long summer evenings out on the patio. It should be comfortable to sit in, withstand weather and use over time, and at the same time contribute to the overall feel of the outdoor setting. At Grythyttan Stålmöbler we develop outdoor seating where function, materials and craftsmanship come together in every detail.

Since 1930, our furniture has been made with a focus on durable construction and a long lifespan. It began with the A2 armchair, designed by Artur Lindqvist and presented at the Stockholm Exhibition the same year. The combination of spring steel and wood created a chair with a distinctive bounce that is still appreciated today. A2 became the starting point for a Swedish furniture tradition that continues to live on in our production.

Garden chairs developed for the Nordic climate

The choice of materials is crucial to how a chair performs outdoors over time. Our models are made from carefully selected woods such as teak, oak and Swedish pine, combined with hot galvanized or powder-coated steel. The construction is developed to cope with shifting temperatures, moisture and daily use over many seasons.

The natural oil content of teak makes the wood resistant to the elements. Oak provides a dense and stable surface with a clear character, while Swedish pine contributes a lively expression and high durability when maintained in the right way. Several of our chairs are also stackable or foldable, which makes them easy to handle and store as needs change.

Comfort is just as important as durability. The springy construction in several of our models offers a more relaxed seating experience where the body can move naturally. This means the chairs work just as well for long dinners as for quiet moments in the sun.
